Masterclass with Prof. Sandra Fredman ‘Bridging Academia, Advocacy and Policy in Realising Social Change’
–
We warmly invite you to participate in an event on ‘Bridging Academia, Advocacy and Policy in Realising Social Change’, which will be held on the occasion of the visit of Professor Sandra Fredman (University of Oxford). Professor Fredman is a leading international authority in the field of equality, anti-discrimination and human rights, and will be awarded an honorary doctorate by Ghent University on Dies Natalis (21 March 2025).
The event will take place at the library De Krook (Room ‘De Blauwe Vogel’) in the afternoon of 20/03/25 (14h30-16h30 CET), and will be followed by a reception at Krookcafé (16h30-17h30). It aims at bringing together academics, students, civil society, practitioners and policymakers to explore how research in equality and non-discrimination can contribute to realising social change, and how allyship between academia, civil society and policy can be pursued.
During the event, Professor Fredman will first give a masterclass on how she approaches societal impact of research in her own activities. Afterwards, we will continue the conversation with a panel moderated by Eva Brems (Professor of Human Rights Law – Ghent University) and a Q&A with the audience. The panel will further consist of:
-
Joke Blockx (Director of the Flemish Human Rights League);
-
Pieter Cannoot (Assistant Professor of Law and Diversity – Ghent University);
-
Patrick Charlier (Co-director of the Belgian Interfederal Equality Body Unia and Chair of Equinet);
-
Yasmina El Kaddouri (Advisor to the Flemish Minister for Equal Opportunities and former human rights attorney);
-
Sandra Fredman (Professor of Equality and Anti-Discrimination Law – University of Oxford).
