Noura Erakat Receives the Amnesty International Chair Award 2025

Thursday, March 27, 2025, became another remarkable day for human rights scholars and activists, as Ghent University proudly awarded the Amnesty International Chair 2025 to Noura Erakat, a distinguished human rights attorney, scholar, and advocate for Palestinian rights. This award recognizes her relentless pursuit of justice and significant contributions to human rights and international law.

The ceremony opened with touching poetry by Ramzi Salem, honoring the suffering and resilience of Palestinians in Gaza, followed by a conversation with Brigitte Herremans, Middle East expert at Ghent University.

Following this, Vice Rector Mieke Van Herreweghe took the stage to formally present the award to Professor Noura Erakat, recognizing her outstanding work and unwavering commitment to justice.

The highlight of the evening was a powerful and deeply moving speech by our laureate, Professor Noura Erakat. She immediately captivated the audience with her profound insights, personal reflections, and passionate advocacy—leaving a lasting impact that will resonate for days to come.

We are honored to celebrate Noura Erakat’s work and the enduring influence of her voice in the fight for human rights for the Palestinian people.
