First meeting “Literature and Human Rights” Reading Group
/
Launched in 2022 by a group of professors and researchers, this initiative brings together colleagues from various disciplines to explore how literary works engage with human rights themes. Each session focuses on one novel in which human rights play a prominent role. This academic year, we are launching a new series of reading group sessions to discuss three literary works.
Professor Eva Brems will moderate the sessions. We warmly invite colleagues and interested readers beyond the university with an interest in the books and themes to join us. We hope these meetings will offer an informal and welcoming space to read and exchange ideas about the nexus between literature and human rights.
Our first session will take place on 10 November, from 17:00 to 18:30, in the Faculty Lounge (aka ‘Harry Potter’), Universiteitstraat 4. We will discuss The Book of Disappearance by Ibtisam Azem.
We already look forward to our next meetings:
22 March: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
7 June: The Deserters by Mathias Énard
