Writing Against Erasure: Literary Voices from Gaza
In the framework of Human Rights Week, this literary evening focuses on writing from Gaza and the role of literature in times of genocide: how words can resist erasure and reclaim what violence seeks to destroy. Authors Fatena Al-Ghorra and Karim Abualaroos will engage in conversation with Brigitte Herremans and discuss the meaning of writing and how writing becomes a means of expression and survival.

Fatena Al-Ghorra is a Palestinian-Belgian writer and the author of six books, five of which are poetry collections. She will read from her recent poetry and texts from her latest work, Exodus to Gaza, a collection of letters to her niece, Lamar, written during her time under siege at Al-Quds Hospital. There, alongside thousands of Gazans and her elderly parents, she sought refuge from the relentless Israeli bombardments.
Karim Abualaroos is a writer and researcher from Gaza who now lives in Belgium. He will read from his texts that explore everyday life in Gaza and reflect on his experience of writing from within the siege, as well as on the relationship between literature and memory under collective violence.

Schrijven tegen uitwissing: literaire stemmen uit Gaza
In het kader van de Week van de Mensenrechten staat deze literaire avond in het teken van literatuur uit Gaza en de rol van literatuur in tijden van genocide: hoe woorden zich verzetten tegen uitwissing en kunnen herwinnen wat geweld probeert te vernietigen. Auteurs Ā Fatena Al-Ghorra en Karim Abualaroos gaan in gesprek met Brigitte Herremans over de betekenis van schrijven, en hoe schrijven voor hen een vorm van expressie en overleving is.
Fatena Al-Ghorra is een Palestijns-Belgische schrijver en auteur van zes boeken, waarvan vijf poƫziebundels. Ze zal recente gedichten en teksten voorlezen uit haar nieuwste werk Uittocht uit Gaza, een verzameling brieven aan haar nicht Lamar, geschreven tijdens de belegering van het Al-Quds-ziekenhuis. Daar zocht ze, samen met haar bejaarde ouders en duizenden andere Gazanen, bescherming tegen de onophoudelijke Israƫlische bombardementen.
